Fuel Gauge reading empty after cluster replacement.

I replaced my failed inst. cluster in my 87 744ti with a used one(thanks guidom12345) from an 86 740t... now after replacement the fuel gauge is reading at just above the red area or almost empty. I know for a fact that the fuel tank is at least 3/4 full as I filled up late last night and didnt do too much driving. It almost seems as if the reading on the fuel gauge is reversed. Also there are some other things I noticed: on my old gauge the needle had an instant reading as soon as the key was turned to the run position, this gauge slowly creeps up from its starting point to give a reading. Also with my old gauge when I was parked facing down an incline the fuel gauge would read less fuel and vice versa when parked uphill. This gauge when facing downhill tells me I have more fuel and vice versa when parked uphill. Its almost as if the signal going to it is reversed or something(as stated previously). I compared the two clusters and gauges and there are differences; the 87 gauge has 4 screws in different positions(one of which is the "Remove for 80L Tank" screw) while the 86 gauge has 3 screws in a triangle configuration and lacks the "Remove for 80L Tank" screw. Anyone have any experience with these types of problems? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
JP
