You do need the motor, but not all locks are the same. I have had to cobble up a few from a bunch of parts to do it, but they work. Am not sure on the IPD unit so you may call them and ask. The older Volvo's are a walk in the park to convert. So far I know of three different lock manufacturers Volvo has used in the 7 and 9 series.
