81-240 wagon charging problem. REPOST !

First, thanks for the help so far, it's really appreciated. I tried connecting a light from the positive post to the D spade terminal on the alt. The light lit without turning the ignition on, remained lit when I turned on ignition and remained lit after starting. I've been testing using my battery so my voltage reading at the btry. is just barely over 12V. At the B+ terminal of the alt, I'm getting nothing grounding on the frame and about .10V grounding at the Btry. terminal. This is the alt. that checked out at Autozone's tester with 14V. The exiter (D+) wire and the oil pressure wire have already been rerouted to the dash. The alt. system has already been changed over to one with internal reg. All this was done by prior owner. Just for the heck of it I hooked D+ wire to oil pressure sensor and it the btry. dash light came on when I turned on the ignition and went off when the engine started. Does this prove that the wire is good? Sorry for being so long winded. Any help greatly appreciated. Ed Lovett
