That's not what they said. A few things were mentioned, which you should pay attention to:

1.) No 740, 760, or 940 got a 24 valve engine. NONE.
2.) The 1989-1991 740 GLE and 940 GLE got 16 valve engines.
3.) In the US none of the 8 valve engines (turbo or non) are interference motors
4.) All the Volvo 16 valve motors are interference designs.
5.) The 12 valve Volvo V6 is an interference design, but the valves are driven by chains that are much less likely to break.
6.) The 24 valve Volvo inline six is an interference design. The only rear wheel drive Volvo this was found in was the 960 (which was later renamed the S90 and V90).
