I cannot remember if the harmonic balancer on your engine has a rubber "sleeve" that joins the two pieces together as I never had to replace one on a 960 for the problem you describe. I have however had to replace many of these parts on 4 cyl cars for this complaint. When the sleeve separates what happens is the belt slips due to the alternator putting the amperage back into the battery that was consumed during the operation of the starter.I have seen it get so bad on 4 cyl cars that the alternator pulley wont even turn.
