I think Gary has it right. I had an '86 which acted like your's and I cleaned all grounds, cleaned and greased connectors, cleaned the battery connections, cleaned the fuses, etc. Eventually the car stopped the stalling. I don't know exactly what I did finaly to fix it. No stalling now for several years.
If your model has the crank position sensor at the bellhousing, you should reach back behind the engine and feel the condition of the sensor cable. If you find any splits, replace that sensor, BTDT. You could also try wriggling that cable while the ehgine is idling to see if the engine stumbles.
That was quite a comeback the Sox made alright and with no penalty yardage too!
