Hi, we have been looking at a 1972 1800ES automatic for sale and it generally looks good. However, it has spent a lot of time in storage and has an engine problem. Engine cranks, generally will not start but occasionally runs rough for a few seconds and then quits with a strong smell of gas from the engine. Owner has changed the spark plugs, changed the oil (due to suspected flooding), and the ignition coil. Owner claims it is probably the fuel pressure regulator and would be cheap to fix. What do you guys think, does this sound like a minor or major engine problem? Thanks for any advice.
