Weird AC problem 700 1988

OK, guys..Here's a puzzle for you..At least it is for ME..My AC pump has begun running all the time. After I start the engine, about 10-20 seconds later, the pump gets the message & the clutch engages..It never goes off all the time I'm driving. Keep in mind, this is with the heater control set at "OFF"..or at heat/defrost/floor/vent.etc. I pulled the AC relay from behind the glovebox. Looked it over & saw a couple places where it looked like the PC board had heated up.. Touched it with a soldering gun to assure new contact. I don't know how to test this relay. I reinstalled it...Same problem! For now, I'm running with no relay & hoping that when I find another, it will solve this problem...Any ideas??
Like:1: how to test relay? 2: is this a recurring thing with these cars? 3:is this the problem, or just a way to turn off the AC system?..Any response would be appreciated! Thanks.Mike
