Modifing Dash 700 series question-Custom changes- ! ?? 700

I know this sounds crazy, and perhaps I have watched way too many episodes of "Overhauling" with customizer Chip Fossse on cable.

Anyway...hate the cracks and the clunky square block look...900 series look better at my local junkyard...I have a 1987 760 GLE Turbo Wagon.
I just updated the headliner and am "improving" things for my long highway trips.
MY background-Pro A/V guy with car audio and computer experience (also worked for Blaupunkt and Alpine)and worked/fixed/modified cars since high school-unfortuntately a couple of decades ago!

Reading in the V8 conversion info ( especially converse eng.) it seems that the FORD swaps can use Volvo dash gauges directly, just a resister to change value on tach...sooo.... can a late model mustang dash gauge group/bezel work with the volvo wiring and sensors? If it works for the goose does it work for the gander?
I might become more aggressive in mods and get some additional improvements.

Alternatative...I have found a really nice late model 900 series dash in the yard...no cracks, a slightly more modern look, better looking gauges. Can this dash and gauge pack move to my car? Does it fit the underlying steel and bolt up?
If so I may focus efforts on the console and just transplant the top,and instrument panel.

My main plan is to perhaps fabricate new custom center console panels that will allow me to rearrange the center layout...allowing the main benefit of-

...the installation of a color touchscreen that will hook to a tiny ITX computer (installed in back) allowing me to access GPS, Microsoft maps and store all my music in files and feed them to the audio system via the aux input. XM stereo,TV tuner,DVD, excellent sound EQ software will also be added through the coumputer. All this is controlled on the panel and the gear is remote.

Believe it or not-- a lot of computer guys are out there doing this already in their cars...proven technology and setup.
Almost everyone builds off the computer company-"VIA" who make a remarkable series of all in one motherboard/cpu combos with ability to run off 12v, some of these are less than 5"x5" with video and sound(5.1) onboard !!

Go to the VIA web site and look at their ITX projects section...these micro ITX computers allow amazing projects.

Since I will need to rearrange center layout anyway and think it might be an opportunity to improve some of the items that are currently irritatating in the Volvo parts placement. I have located a very nice late model Mustang Bezel with Gauges but need to grab them quickly...for that mater same goes for the 900 series dash.

Thanks in advanvce for any info...this is the best board ever!
