Replaced the steering rack boots on my 83 245 this weekend (yes, the CAM rack is filled with some sort of oil as indicated by the Haynes manual, but replaced it with grease that came with the boots). The manual also doesn't tell you the sway bar gets in the way of people with big hands and there is a tube that goes across the steering rack that make installation a bit more hairy than simply slipping on the boot. Looks like something to release air pressure that the boot has to fit over. Let's hope I counted the number of turns on the tie rod end correctly. All in all, about an hour long job, most of which was jacking up the car, taking off the wheels, and removing tie rod ends.
Anyway, my box from FCP Groton just arrived with my new coolant temp sensor (the one for the fuel injection), heater hoses, drive belts, various gaskets (intake manifold, oil pan, valve cover), water pump, thermostat and gaskets for same. Looks like I'll be busy again this weekend as I've already got my new timing belt, tensioner and front oil seals at home. After this, it's time to install the old sport exhaust from IPD (car only has 61,000 miles and this is the original exhaust so I'll hope that I can do this one myself).
