Changing steering rack boot -- A question 200

My IPD catalog makes the changing of these sound simple but doesn't mention a step mentioned in my Haynes manual. The IPD catalog indicates you loosen the nut on the tie rod and unscrew it from the tie rod end while the manual indicates you pull the tie rod end out with a puller. I'm a novice at front end work though I do everything else myself so I may be completely off base. Any tips?
