'90 740 GLE 16-valve engine shows all the classic symptoms of a failing ignition module, per the FAQ. Car runs fine and suddenly the engine quits with no warning. After a rest period, it cranks fine.
Two questions: 1) I'm assuming a high probability that it's the ignition module. Before I spring for the cost of a new one, what are the chances that it could be something else? Is there a way to verify that it's the module?
And 2) FCP Groton has a Bosch ignition module with the same part number showing on mine for $65. They also show an aftermarket brand (HUGO) for $39. Is there any reason to spend the extra $$$ for the Bosch unit?
Thanks for any and all comments and suggestions.
