I have been having shifting problems in my '89 745 w/auto. Basically, most of the time it will not shift into 4th gear. It just stays in 3rd, where it used to shift going about 35-40 mph. The O/D button when pushed at that speed, or even higher, does nothing but light up the little arrow. It does not shift into O/D. Other times, it will shift just fine, and the O/D will kick in and everything is hunky-dory. My indy mechanic says my kickdown cable is fine, and that it may be the little O/D relay in behind the ashtray. Does that sound reasonable? I also read some of the FAQ's stating I could take my old relay switch apart and re-solder some of the old brittle solder connections that may be causing this. How does this sound? Thanks in advance!
