My Dad's old diesel Land Rover had a mesh screen in the extendable fuel filler neck (don't know it was a diesel thing of it all old Landy's have similar). Perhaps intended to filter out junk you night get from using jerry cans for toting fuel. Anyhow it was surprising what sorts of stuff you'd find in that screen after fueling up at a gas station.
