You are going to have to pull the head for anything related to this so look for (1) Head Gasket blown

(2) Burned Exhaust valves

If the piston were holed you would have blue smoke out the whazoo so the bottom end is probably ok. Is this a Turbo or NA? Turbos are a lot harder on the valves and head gaskets.
