mpg and waisting wallets 120-130

Thanks Matt,

I had the carbs checked and they are pretty worn, and running rich, deliberately adjusted that way. The exhaust if fairly black-sooty, and I haven't checked the plugs but I guess they'll show the symptoms. I also get white smoke on startup.

I reckon a partial re-built and new carbs will probably hook me an extra 6-8 mpg, so the balance is: £1000 on that or £400 per year in extra fuel. It's a bit like renting a place or buying it. In the latter case after two years I've spent almost the same amount with no improvements; I should bite the bullet and make the improvements since I intend to keep the car.

Cheers
