Hey yall,
Ive been having trouble with the OD relay in my 240 dl wagon. I replaced it several times. Each time I did, it would work for a short time then go bad.
We'll after all this I pulled all the old relays out to have a look at them.
Took the case/cover off all of them, and inspected the circuit boards.
It turns out that on each of them there was a solderline that looked as if melted in two, like a fuse that burnt out. this little solder connection is near the edge of the board and very near the numbers 86 and 87 stamped on the housing.
Dad and I resoldered this junction and things seemed to work fine....for a short while until it burned out again.
well I posted this problem previously, and alot of you sweeties made reply.
all of that is here: http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=805359
and includes a pic of the problem from another poster.
Everyone is pointing me to this white wire that runs from the relay to the shift console and then the solenoid. We got up under there and looked at the wire.
It looks good in the dash board and around relay - no bare areas or loose connections
Looked ok in the shifter console- no bare areas or loose connections
Looked good from what we could see from underneath-no bare areas or loose connections- although we really couldnt see above the transmission.
before we go and replace this meandering wire and its special connections ....is there anything else we should check for that can be causing this problem?
additional consideration should be given to the fact that the speedometer intermittantly works. It may work when I start out then just goes to zero. Or It might not work when I start, but then fly up to the actual speed while cruising. Could this have anything to do with it?
If not I guess we'll just pull and replace the white wire...what a bummer...
kisses,
