Post valve job woes.... 700 1990

Hi all.

HELP !! I purchased this 760T sedan, and discovered it had a warped head. I had it redone by a reputable establishment, and installed it. NOW, I cannot for the life of me get the timing set. I can start the car, but it will run for only 10 seconds or so and shutdown. After it's warm, it will run but hunts badly. And emits a cough of sorts. With added throttle, it runs, but misses.

I aligned the mark in the camshaft pulley with the dimple in the cover at about 12 o'clock. The crank timing mark was placed at 0. In this position, the lobes of the position 1 cylinder are pointed upward obliquely, and the piston I can feel at the top with a wooden dowel.

WHAT AM I MISSING ?????? Any suggestions welcomed !!!

Thanks, Robert
