A/C compressor is engaged all of the time and doesn't cycle on and off 700 1990

By the way, my signature below will always show you details regarding make, year, etc. of my car.
Anyway, last summer the compressor cycled on and off as needed. This year it is engaged all of the time and does not cycle off. A/C doesn't seem to be as cold as last year. It is R-12. Anything I should be thinking of?
