Coolant temp sender not working -- and -- Intake air temp sensor quirk? 140-160

This is for a '73 D-jet engine

How do I test this darn coolant temperature sender? Any specific resistance it should have? I replace the wire going to it, but the dash gauge still no worky. It's supposed to have only one wire coming off the sender correct? And the sender is centered beneath the exhaust manifold right? If indeed it does end up bad, where in the hibby do I find a new one for a decent price?

Also, I took the car out for a spin, then came back, turned the car off for 10-15 minutes, came back out started it up, and it was idling kinda rough. I pulled the clip harness out of the air temp sensor on the front radiator crossmember and the idle instantly smoothed out. Plug back in, rough idle. I'm not too familiar with D-jet so this might be common. Now there is no intake box connected, so the throttle body is sucking air directly in, but it doesn't seem like there would really be that much of a temperature difference from where the sensor is compared to the throttle body, especially with the hood open. Any ideas?

thanks guys
