There are a lot of these worms and viruses going around right now, including a huge one Microsoft is issuing warnings about presently, called Sasser.
These worms are malicious and often send stuff out without the user even knowing about it. Best bet is to use a good antivirus program and update it frequently. Norton has caught many incoming viruses on my machine.

Most of these presently target Win 2000 and XP systems.

My old Win98SE system seems thankfully immune to the present threats. Maybe I just like it "old school." :)
