760 ignition module 700 1989

I just grabbed the two modules (1 is the ignition module, the other ?) from the drivers side kick panel of a 1990 760. Unfortunately I see that the two modules in my 89 760 are different part numbers. I have seen some indication that the module with the plastic case is supposed to be the ignition module. I have two questions:

1) What is the module with the alluminum case (Bosch PN 0 265 101 028)?
2) Where can I find this type of information myself?

I can't find anything that references the PN's even in the Volvo FSM.

As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.
