Upper Chassis Braces 200

hi there -

I just got a set of these Upper Chassis Braces from ipd for my auto 245 1992 - 170,000. The set comes with the two bars and screws and then two aluminim washers/spacer......the bar gets screwed to the top of the strut using the existing bolt. Then the directions tell you to use the washer and then screw into firewall.

I had one problem with one of the screw....it seemed to get stripped on the way in. So it would not fit with the washer/spacer...but will fit and screw in without it....Do I really need this washer/spacer?
