gas not getting to engine 200 1986

my volvo refuses to start and i had it diagnosed that the fuel pump relay way bad and replaced it and the car started........the shortly stalled. the relay blew out again. i had someone lookj at it for over a month and what they ended up doing was jimmy rigging it and just going around the relay and using a switch to give the pumps power. it worked fine and dandy for about a day then it wouldn't start again no gas was getting to the engine. anyone have something similar happen to them on a 1986 240gl sedan? atlest the fuel relay part not the jimmy rigging.....
