AM RECEPTION PROBLEM 940 STATION WAGON 900

AM RECEPTION PROBLEM, 940 STATION WAGON

I just bought a 1993 940 station wagon with 149k miles on it. I have ordered a Hanes manual through Amazon Marketplace. I previously owned an ’83 240 upon which I did considerable maintenace and repair. Six months ago I purchased an ’89 240 for my grandson and we did some shock and brake work on that. So I am somewhat experienced in working on “Bricks”. With that out of the way let me describe my AM problem (by the way I checked the archives and I still think I need some assistance). I have an aftermarket pioneer which “plays” AM signal only when I pulled it out and attached an old mast antenna. My conclusion is that the window antenna stinks and I need to either install a mast antenna or install an amplifier, One technician said the amplifier would only amplify the noise and I have a “ground Plane’ problem. Final questions: has anybody had experience installing an amplifier or installing a mast antenna, and if so where is the best easiest place to install the antenna?
