3rd 240 with the SAME electrical problem and New Questions 200 1987

Sorry, but this is long. I just bought another 240. This time an 87 240 DL sedan.
Last fall I rewired the entire engine compartment on my 1984 245 which is runing good thanks to all of your advice (knock on the wood!). I had an 81 245 that got a complete wiring harness a few years ago but never ran the same.
New Car, Same Problems.
I thought the wiring harnesses in the 86 and up were better? The Battery is not charging, the idiot lamps all come on some times and sometimes never. I spliced a new 6" section to the idiot/alternator red wire a few months ago. The spade connector was corroded and frayed. It was working then. It's now acting up again. This wiring section runs under the motor to the drivers side like the rest??? I thought it was moved to the pass. side fender on the "late model" 240's. The B230's regulator is even harder to get to than the older ones. The oil filter's in the way of the right screw.
Should I cut into the connector at the firewall for the alternator & oil wires and run a complete new pair of wires? Am I going to have to take the alternator off the car to replace the regulator? IPD does not even offer a repair harness for the 85 + up 240's. Why?
If I can't get this fixed soon my wife said I need to find a new favorite car.
I may have to take it in and let somone else work on it. I got frostbite on my hands working on it today. When will this winter end.
Ben
