Most people would say you are due.
If the car is running real well, you might just clean it.
When I buy a used car, I remove the plug wires, inspect and clean them. I have used WD-40 and a rag, or put them in the sink and washed them with detergent and water.
As for the cap and rotor, I remove them and scrape/file/sand the burnt material off the rotor tip and cap contacts. A LIGHT touch of sandpaper cleans the center terminal in the cap, clean the top of the rotor with a pencil eraser or sandpaper if it is bad. You might find quite a bit of oil in the cap as well. I discard the black dust/water cover from the cap as it catches dirt which can cause problems.
In the 60s, one had to do this 3-4 times a year if you had an old car. (you had to adjust the points and timing as well)
