Cold engine - Low revs 700 1989

I have a 760GLE V6 automatic. Although it starts first time when the engine is cold, when it's in neutral the revs drop almost to zero when I hit the throttle then rise again, this makes it impossible to put it in gear and drive off as the engine almost stalls. I have to wait around five minutes till the engine has warmed up before I can drive off, then it performs as it should do.

Any help would be appreciated.
