how NOT to pull your car out of the snow

Funny. But sad. I have tutored 2 sons and a number of friends' kid in math and physics to help them get through high school. The universal lament is "Why do I have to learn this crap. I'll never use it.". Well here is one incident where a little contemplation of forces, etc. would have led to the conclusion that, like Don said, hooking on to the snow side would have extracted it rather than turning it in deeper. Or that 'gunning it' will generate huge local forces at the bumper because of the mass of the car.

Of course, they had enough buddies at the scene that they could have manually lifted the car out. Duh!
