But to add more to your original ideas of the fuel system. My car was not carbuerated, but when it had the symptoms you describe, it was mainly a dirty fuel system, mostly the fuel filter, which I ended up replacing around 10 times...(not trying to scare you) But my fuel filters were less than $2 each. My car had been sitting for three years though, and now, a year later, it runs fabulous as it can. The timing was also off, I assume you have already checked that, but if not, it can't hurt. Also, yes, as someone already said, I think in my Haynes manual it says that there is an in tank filter that might need to be replaced. So, I'd say, check the fuel filters and timing first (and techron or something like it), and then go on from there. Good Luck!
