Used engine or rebuild head 900 1995

I bought my mother a 95 960 with 99K miles so I can have my Mercedes back. The 960 has a blown head gasket. The mechanic gave me a price of $1200 to rebuild the head.
I have found a '97 motor with 80K miles for $900 complete shipped to my mechanics door. I am pretty sure all the electronics are the same for the two cars and the '97 should have some updates that were made.

This may be a stupid question...but doesn't it make more sense to get the used engine that's been tested, less miles and has a guarantee than go with the head rebuild...epecially since it will be LESS money? I have always had GREAT advise from the Brickboard experts... I guess I just need a little "go for it" on this one.
