Season's Greetings to All,
I just opened up the engine of my "71 142E and found the cylinder bores in surprisingly good condition for a car with 237k miles on the clock. Checking the engine numbers (498256-15534) it turned out that this is a B20B block, rather than a B20E, ergo, a swap had been done. Now I'm curious as to how old this thing really is. Is there any way to tell from these numbers? This anomally, of course, means that, despite the good condition of the block, I'll have to dig deeper and pull the camshaft to determine if it's a C or a D, because if it is a C, that might explain why I can't get this thing to stop pinging.
