1988 244GL Rattle problem

First - thanks for the help. Finally did the 'remove temp compensation board and solder jumper' trick to correct a temperature gauge with a mind of it's own. Daughter is very happy which makes Dad happy.

The problem we have now (have had since buying the car) is a very noisy rattle. What is causing this is a 'gate box' on the exhaust manifold (has something to do with warming up the air to the engine when cold, I believe). The 'box' sits (or I believe should sit) on the exhaust manifold with a flex tube going from the air cleaner to the box. The tube is gone and the 'box' is just hanging on the exhaust manifold (not in the position it should be). Since the system is not working the way it should (does not affect the running of the car)can I just remove the box and make my daughter happy (less noise)?

As always - many thanks - Ted K.
