My car did that with the bad MAF. Just checked the Bentely manual for the codes. I had the 2-3-1 and also think 1-1-3. Are you reading all the error codes and not just the first one? The thermostat in the air boxes sometimes stick open leading to pre-mature failure of the MAF. What got me to eventually fix the car was emission failure. Ended up taking it to the dealer. I was out of ideas and the MAF checked good when doing simple DC tests.
