Normal engine vacuum behavior 200 1984

I placed a "T" connector in the middle of the vacuum line that comes thru the firewall into that white cylinder thingy where the lines on the other end of that thingy feed the ventilation controls in the center console. The other segment of the "T" feeds the vacuum gauge.

Did I install it incorrectly?
