Replacing Small Clock in 83 240

The small dash clock in or '83 240 GL runs intermittently at best. I've purchased a replacement on Ebay. Now--how do I replace it? Do I have to pull the whole instrument cluster and/or dashboard out, or can I simply remove it from the front of the dash, disconnect a wire, connect wire to replacement unit, and reinstall?
