O.k., first, on rare occasions the power assist goes out completely, most of the time it's o.k. As for the rack, when the wheel is turned at a sharp degree, it is not actually turning as far as it should. We have a Bentley book on the way. I don't know why we didn't do it sooner. I used to own Volkswagons, and my Bentleys were indispensable. My husband was turning the other day (sharply) and the power steering squealed pretty loud. I know that when you replace the rack, you should replace the power steering as well (to prevent crud from getting in the new rack?), is the inverse true? What do we look at regarding the rack, tie rods and ujoints on visual inspection? The boot shouldn't be cracked, the tie rods should be straight, and the ujoints...? Thanks for your help.
