CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PERSISTS???? 700

I have a 1987, 740 w/ 247K+ miles and the check engine light continues to come on for a couple of minutes right after you first start it up. I have serviced the flame trap,replaced spark plugs and cleaned throttle body recently. The car also recemtly failed the TEXAS emissions test so I am somewhat concerned. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks! TPW
