While performing the not-so-uncommon M40 to M41+OD upgrade on my 121 the following question came up regarding the speedo drive gear. I already posted this on CVI's forum, but since most of you regulars here appear not to have discovered that yet here it comes again:
Some people tell me that the speedo drive gear goes with the rear axis ratio (in other words, unless you swap both gearbox AND rear axis - don't mess with the speedo drive gear), while some people tell me that it is definately a "thing on the list" of not-forgets when doing the M41 upgrade; less the speedo will show lower than actual speed. What gives?
I do have the new and longer OD speedo cable, but do I have to exchange the drive gear aswell? The car has a rear axis ratio of 4.10:1 (a '69 121) and the new gearbox is a M41 w/ OD.
Thanks,
:: Fredrik
