Bendix Brake Clips

1989 740 Turbo Wagon--service tag on brakes 3 = DBA. Ordered a new set of Bendix front brake pads from PartsBin. Package include 4 pads and 2 clips.
Clips are about 2 3/16 by 2 5/16s and made up of some tabs and cutout slots. Looking at the pads and the clips there is no obvious connection between the two. What are they and how do they attach.

Any help much appreciated.
