I just had a great afternoons work getting to the oil trap on my 740 GLT with the B230E engine. I found you don't have to unbolt a lot of parts like the inlet manifold to get it done. Here is what I did.
Disconnect battery - Important - as you may short out on the starter motor when undoing the oil trap/rear air/fuel control unit mount bolts.
Take off the large bellows between the air/fuel control unit.
Take off the pipe between the air box and the air/fuel control unit.
Remove the pipes from the flame trap holder. Remove flame trap holder.
Undo the three mounting bolts holding on the air/fuel control unit. two at the rear and one at the front. They are 13mm nuts.
Lift the air/fuel control unit upwards to clear the rear mounts, which are open ended at the top.
Clear the front mount of the air/fuel control unit.
Pull the air/fuel control unit towards you, You will see two 13mm bolts holding on the oil trap and the rear mount of the air/fuel control unit.
While pulling the air/fuel control unit towards you use a 13mm ring spanner to undo the two mounting bolts. One sixth turn at a time.
Recover the two bolts and the air/fuel control unit rear mouting bracket.
Pull off the spade connector visible just above the oil trap. This gives you the clearance to remove the oil trap, just.
Remove the oil trap by gently lifting it square until the rear touches the male spade connector. Pull the rear of the oil trap towards you to clear the spade connector and gently lift again.
The oil trap is now clear and can be removed.
Refitting is the reverse. Small hands like mine will definately help : )
Hope this helps someone. My oil trap was completely blocked with hard baked deposits making the flame trap fix useless without the above.
