Same problem here. Look at the (for lack of a better word) 'hook' that causes the roof to drop down and I think has something to do with the retaction. It kind of looks like a the top half of a block style elongated letter "S" laying on its side. My passenger side one cracked, and the roof has not been right since. If I can get my daughter's digicam away from her, I will post a pic of the part. I believe mine cracked due to lack of maintenance over the last 12 years. It is not the best design in the world. Rather antiquated given the available technology at the time. I digress. Anyhow, when I get around to fixing the thing, I've been advised to remove the entire mechanism for overhaul, or experience the same problem in the near future.
