My 2 cents about your 2 cents=Engine swaps and custom work

First off I am not posting this to make any enimies and accept all constructive criticism and input (good or bad).
There have been people in the past couple months that have inquired about engine swaps and other custom work. Some of the postings responding to these peoples questions have been totally inaccurate.Thats not to say that I have all the answers but a majority of the responses have sounded SO factual (and negative I might add) and most are filled with garbage. It's usually a question about "will this or that fit here or there" or adapt .It seems like alot of you have looked at things "on paper" and determined "it couldn't possibly work".If you havn't actually tried to do what the poster is asking couldn't you post your response as your opinion but admit you've never tried the item in question,(phsyically on a car).
I started working on volvos in 1988.From the start I loved 140's (but have owned over 40 volvos of all types) over the past 15 years. After only a few months of working on the cars I realized a turbo engine in a 140 would be super cool,(as a lot of you know I've done the swap recently).I was told by alot of the same type of people that it couldn't be done.......So I wasted 15 years believeing them."you can't use stock manifolds, oil pans, etc.(I kept hearing).Go out into the garage and try to do some of the work before you rain on others ideas. There are some posters who seem to be quicker to condenm such projects.(a person with the initials RB comes to mind).Spewing misinformation about "what couldn't possibly work" and trying to steer people anywhere (towards stock) that they can. Most people asking about doing an engine swap (for instance) know there will be some extra work involved but feel the payoff would be worth it,but to have some rookie who's never tried to do the work start guessing at HOW much work, time or money without having tried is just lame. Some people like volvos that arn't stock (and I don't just mean IPD bars). This board, while open to everyone, seems to be packed with ENTHUSIASTS that are looking for a little more out of their bricks.
I am more than willing to help people with their conversions and other custom work (that i've personally completed!) and offer my opinions (appropriately labeled as such) on projects I havn't actually tried. That in itself makes it much easier for others.I have spent hours helping people with advise, pictures etc,on the phone,in person, and through emails. So if you don't know what your talking about please post your opinions as speculation,i'm sick of being called a liar over technology I have (sitting in my driveway) ready for any volvo freak to test drive that comes by.
I have helped install 305,350,396, and 454 engines in 700 series cars (fuel injected and carbed WITHOUT cutting),have created multiple brake and control linkage upgrades ( bolt on and of my own design) and have bolt in rear disc brakes for 1800,122,544 etc just about ready to go.I know I'll be told THAT can't be done also.....stay tuned!
