I recently replaced my leaking rear main seal, all seemed well until I reinstalled the transmission and found that the tranny pump was not running. It turns out that the torque converter can appear to be properly mounted in the transmission when it is not. A local volvo shop informed me that if the torque converter is removed the transmission must be stood on end, and the torque converter spun around until it drops down almost an inch into the bell housing(aparently the guy at the shop has done this once too)! If you do not do this, you will break the gear that drives the trans fluid pump. Now I have a dead transmission and a job which was supposed to be no more expensive than $20 for seals has skyrocketed to well into the hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars. I understand that you can't cover everything, and I appreciate what a valuable resource the board is, but this seems like something that should be in the FAQ. You should certianly add it so no one else makes the same mistake. =/
