problems starting the engine 700 1991

I just had a similiar problem after replacing timing belt, water pump, flame arrestor and some electrical wiring. It turned out that the fuel pump relay had water in it and had burned out one of the two coils in the fuel pump relay. **** Of course these two areas are not connected in any way, but it was just fortuitous and it happened. Caused me much alarm when it didn't start as I thought that my timing belt replacement job was sour, but NOT SO.
I checked the fuel rail and had 35 psi and the flow was about 2 liters per minute and the spark was blue an about 1\2 inch long, the timing was right on the mark with a timing light. I couldn't figure.
It finally was the fuel pump relay. When I jumpered 30 and 87\2 the pump worked fine, but would not start even when the fuel rail was at 35 psi.
It turns out that if the fuel pump does not have +12v,i.e.,running, then the injectors will not have voltage either and when the ECU pulls the injector terminal down to ground, so they will squirt fuel, they will not inject(squirt) because they do not have the +12 on the injector.
A new relay fixed the problem.

Good luck Bob
