Try using the AC range, low volts. The signal is pulsing, so it's much more like AC than DC. Start with a known good cylinder to "calibrate" your expectations.
If you're in a serious bind, I can loan you a module from a '72 145 for diagnostic purposes.... It should work, though I'm not sure it'll provide exactly the right mixture.
And I have two '73 ESs in the side yard, but I'm not ready to tear into them yet.
