The back edge of the headliner is not that hard to unhook and pull down. Then access to the inside end of the harness is good. The hinges themselves need to be unbolted from the body to do this. That means the hatch needs to be supported pretty well. Try to find some 2x4s or some similar kind of frame to rest the thing on. When pulling out an old harness, attach another wire or string to it, and pull that through so you can feed the new harness in by tying that to it.
Should probably do them both at the same time, but if the one side is still good, you can just do the one.
