Dodged a Bullet !!! 700

Yesterday afternoon, the family and I were heading out to do some shopping. I went out to start the car('88 740 Turbo wagon) and crank up the A/C while the boys were getting ready. I had gone into the house for something, and when I cane back out, I saw liquid dripping from under the center of the car. I walked over and sniffed-RAW FUEL!!! "Everybody back in the house!" I shut it down, changed my clothes, jacked up the rear, and took a look. Pump, fine. Filter, fine. Fuel lines...oh, I see. The steel center section had drifted over and started rubbing against the driveshaft, which in turn had rubbed a thin spot in the wall of the fuel line. I was able to take the steel section down, cut the bad part out, and splice in a piece of rubber fuel line hose with two new hose clamps. Add a maddening half-hour to wrestle it back into a safe position and a bunch of tie-wraps to keep it in place, and it's dry as old toast under there. There's a lesson here, and that is to check the clearance and security of your brick's fuel lines as they run by the driveshaft- I don't think Volvos are flame-retardant!! :-o
