I'm starting to see a little rust in a couple of spots under the windshield, staining the white paint in little streaks. The biggest spots is at the bottom corner on the driver's side, where the water runs off when I squeegee the windshield when I'm filling up. I assume this is a pretty common place for cars to develop rust. Is there a good semi-permanent fix for this that doesn't require taking out the windshield or its weatherstripping?
Also, I'm starting to see minute little rust spots in the paint just about everywhere there is a horizontal surface on the car. They are very small and you wouldn't notice them until you looked very closely. When I wash the car it is even less noticeable. What are the consequences of this? Can I let it go for a couple more years before thinking about a paint job? And when and if I do get the paint job, does these little rust spots mean I'm going to have to strip the paint down to the metal before priming? (I like to prime and prep my cars before taking them in to the paint shop to save some money).
