I am trying to trouble shoot my son's '83 240 wagon.
It will start and run fine for a while but then stall. It will start right up but will often stall moments later. It dies fast no hesitation just dead. Seems to happen at any rpm -- high or low.
Changed the fuel filter which helped for a few weeks now the problem is as bad or worse.Checked the electrical draw for both fuel pumps they seem to be normal (according to the Bentley book). I pulled the relays and reversed them -- no change. Should they both click when the engine starts?.
I checked the fuel output from the return line side of the regulator and while the car was running I colleced 1 liter of fuel in 15 seconds which is double what Bentley specifies.
Can the regulator be returning too much fuel and not allowing proper pressure to build in the fuel rail? Any suggestions please?
